Seven Scots to receive posthumous Elizabeth Emblem
#1

A Glasgow firefighter who died in one of the city’s worst peacetime tragedies is among the first recipients of a new posthumous royal award honouring public servants killed in the line of duty.

Whats the point?
You can't pin medals on dead men.
Why the need for milatristic style awards.
And if so needed why did it take so long?

The point is that the sacrifice made by these members is recognised by the society they served. If this award makes their surviving family members feel that their loss has been properly recognised and helps them in any way, I am firmly behind it.

But personally speaking I would like to see more done financially to help those left behind.
Losing a bread winner in such tragic circumstances can lead to financial hardship.
As far as I am aware the families have to apply for this medal, if they feel that they don’t wish to receive the medal they can either refuse it, or chose not to apply.
We all have opinions, thank god they are not all the same, or there would be no debate.

Again Bill we are in agreement.
We still rely on a charity to support firefighters injured in the line of duty.
There is very little practical support for the families.
Never agreed with milartarisic style awards in the fireservice (a life saving service). If you want them in my opinion join the military.
