Angela Raynor

I have been giving the stamp duty surrounding Angela Rayner.

Apparently the home in Manchester is modified for her disabled son.
It’s been put into a trust and although Angela does not own the property as a trustee for stamp duty purposes she is de facto an owner. This means that although she only owns one property the flat in Hove she should have paid an additional 5% stamp duty on her £800,000 flat amounting to £40,000.

Although it’s possible that Angela has made an honest mistake, I think she did, her position may become untenable. There was already reports of impropriety regarding the sale of another property prior to this. But she was admonished of any foul play over this issue. Hence why I think this has been a case of human error rather than tax avoidance. For Angela after what happened here, woukd have made it madness to attempt tax avoidance on her flat in Hove.

So let’s see what the investigation comes up with.
But I hope Angela is cleared, and if so, I hope she overcomes calls for her dismissal.
But if the enquiry decides she is culpable then she has to go.
We all have opinions, thank god they are not all the same, or there would be no debate.

Hi Bill
I agree with your comments but as Housing Minister she should be squeaky clean so the gutter press cannot find anything wrong with her purchase.
If she is culpable then there will be no choice, which is a shame as she is a larger than life character, lets wait for the outcome
Hope all is good your end

All good this end Ben, hope it’s the same at yours.

Going of on a bit of a tangent, I don’t reckon this is a fair tax on someone in her position.
She only owns one house but is being taxed on what’s “regarded” as a second house.
But as you say if she’s found to have been wrong she has to go.
But I honestly think this has to be looked at.
This would never have happened if her son was not disabled.

Sadly Angela has left her position as deputy PM and deputy leader.

She had to go because it’s reckoned she was advised to get more detailed legal advice with regards to her situation being a trustee in a property held for her son who is disabled. When you compare this with what Johnson and other Tories had to do likewise there quite frankly is no comparison.

Let’s be clear, and I don’t mean this to be an excuse, but a tax system which penalises people for taking care of their disabled children needs looking at. Angela has been punished for taking care of her disabled son, if her son was not disabled they would have sold the property in Manchester and it would not have come to this.

I am angry at the way this has been reported in the media, and even more angry at the total lack of empathy within Parliament. I applaud Ed Davis for his response, sadly others should hang their heads in shame. Angela did not own this home, she only owned one home, I feel that this has not been mentioned sufficiently by the media.

This is what Sir Laurie Magnus stated within his report.

While he said that she had "acted with integrity", he told the prime minister that "she cannot be considered to have met the 'highest possible standards of proper conduct' as envisaged by the [ministerial] code."

When you analyse what happened here, it’s hard not to feel the media have failed miserably to give a balanced view on what happened.
Yes Angela had to go, but not because she was corrupt, but because she made a mistake.
She should have ticked all of the boxes and crossed all of the tees, but for reasons she only knows she did not.
The Tories she described a scum are having the last laugh, and the man who travelled to the US to besmirch his own country is loving what happened.

A woman who had to take care of her mentally ill mother as a child, whilst living in a home with a lack of food, hot water and proper heating, and a woman who has had to deal with a blind son has been brought to heel by people who despise her.

When I watch coverage of people giving their ill informed comments on her, it turns my stomach. She is repeatedly being accused of being corrupt by lazy people who have done no research whatsoever, their comments based on envy and ignorance. In this throw away world, the world of politics has lost someone who bucked the trend, someone who knew what hardship and devotion where, and many who now celebrate are relieved that she for now, has been relegated to the back benches. But something tells me we have not heard the last of Angela, you know what they say, you can’t keep a good woman down.
