Gone (retired) - Phil Micallef EC Member Region 5 5/7/00 5/7/04, replaced by Warren Gee. An old guard loyalist but pretty unobtrusive, now also national treasurer.

Remains - Keith Handscomb EC Member Region 9 5/7/00 5/7/04. Still in the gang of 'young Turks', but bailed out of the national treasurers election in the interests of 'unity'.

Remains - Jack Ford EC Member Officers 3/10/00 3/10/04. Old guard loyalist and behind the scenes 'fixer'.

Lost election - Geoff Ellis National Officer 8/5/00 8/5/05. Lost to Dean Mills in 2006.

Lost election - Andy Gilchrist General Secretary 21/2/00 06/05. Beaten by Matt Wrack in 2005.

Gone (retired) - Brian Joyce EC Member Region 13 19/2/01 19/2/05, replaced by Tam McFarlane, arch Gilchrist loyalist and self appointed champion of the sections.

Gone (retired) - Morris Butterfield EC Member Retained 1/10/01 1/10/05, replaced by Tam Mitchell, old guard loyalist and slippery as frog snot. Man is a human weather vane!

Remains - Vicky Knight EC Member Women 01/02 01/06, old guard Rotty.

Remains - Mick Nicholas EC Member BEAMM 03/02 03/06, old guard, single issue, wannabee New Labour politician.

Remains - Alan McLean EC Member Region 3 04/02 04/06. Now Vice President and the 'controlling mind' of the old guard EC.

Gone, but not beaten as did not accept nominations for re-election - Ruth Winters President 07/02 07/06. Replaced by Mick Shaw, but spends all her time sniping from the sidelines. Needs to accept 'democracy', even when she doesn't like the result.

Remains - Jim Barbour EC Member Region 2 07/02 07/06, new guard stalwart.

Gone (retired) - John McDonald EC Member Region 1 2/7/02 2/7/06. After months and months of civil war in Scotland, McDonald retired to be replaced by new guard lad Roddy Robertson.

Mick Shaw EC Member Region 10 15/7/02 15/7/06, now President, replaced temporarily by Ian Leahair, new guard.

Lost election - Val Salmon EC Member Control 09/02 09/06, beaten by Sharon Eames, new guard.

Remains - John McGhee National Officer 16/10/01 16/10/06. Looking increasingly isolated up at head shed.

Gone (retired) - Mike Fordham Assistant General Sec 26/11/01 26/11/06. Eventuallt replaced by Andy Dark, after 2 elections for the post. First election contested by John McGhee, Dean Mills and Matt Wrack. Wrack wins, old guard refuse to let him take up the 'shadowing' role as promised (thoughts were that McGhee would walk it). Second election takes place after Wrack wins General Secretary election. Contested by Geoff Ellis and Andy Dark.

Remains - Dave Green EC Member Region 6 12/03 12/07, new guard stalwart.

Remains (just re-elected) - Ernie Thornton EC Member Region 11 12/03 12/07. Very old guard and mini-fixer/bullet firer. Due to retire in 2008 according to some, but talked his regional officials into letting him stay for the extra few months so the union can pick up the tab of running the election again a year or so later. Exactly the same argument that Thornton used as to why Blackburn shouldn't stand for national officer (and who could have got 10 years in anyway).

Dean Mills EC Member Region 12 12/03 12/07. Replaced Geoff Ellis.

Remains - Mike Smith EC Member Region 8 12/03 12/07, believe election for his position currently underway. Cantankerous and pompous are the kindest descriptions I've heard of him.

Gone (retired in early 2005) - Dave Patton National Officer 03/04 01/08. Position left vacant by decision of the bulk of the EC (old guard 2/3rds majority), who wanted to stop any more new guard getting in. Position recently filled by Sean Starbuck, beating Tam McFarlane with a substantial margin.

Gone (retired) - Bob Blackburn EC Member Region 4 Early 04 Early 08. Replaced initially by Sean Starbuck, now have acting EC due to national officer election result.

Gone (retired from service) - John Vernon EC Member Region 7 08/04 08/08. Lasted a few months after beating Dave Whatton. Replaced by Whatton only later on same year. Whatton rabid old guard.

Remains - Paul Wool’holmes National Officer 12/03 12/08. Beat Mike Lawson in 2003 election. First of the new guard up for re-election, due next year.

Elected a couple of years ago - Stewart Brown EC for G&L. Neither new or old, although votes with old out of expediency. Just looks after Stewart Brown.

Does anybody know who is actually standing for the vacant National officers post?
