Pension calculator to see what degree of protection you have.

now added a selection for the scheme you are in eg FPS or NFPS as to get full protection you need to be 45 in the FPS or 50 in the NFPS on april 1st 2012.
tappering is the same for both schemes so no protection is 41.5 years & under for the FPS or 56.5 years & under for the NFPS on 1st april 2012.

What is the npa age for nfps? i know you can go at 60 but what is full pension npa?

the NPA's are:
FPS = 55
NFPS = 60

therefore on the 1st april 2012 to get full protection you need to be:
FPS = 45+
NFPS = 50+

to get tappered protection you will need to be:
FPS = between 41.5+ & 45
NFPS = between 46.5+ & 50

Looks like everyone who joined young are in an awful position. I joined 1993, age 19, now have no protection, and no chance of a 2023 retiral with 31years service. Now am workin til I'm 60, yet the lads a few years older joining same day are on the beach long time before me. Seems very harsh and very unlawful.

it does seem harsh i agree and discriminate on age grounds.
don't forget, you can still access what you have accrued under the old scheme at the time you would have received this.
you can still go at 50 if you have 25 years plus service. however, you will not be able to claim the second part ie the pension you accrue under the new scheme until you are 60.

I am trying to work out my new retirement age if I want to retire with the same amount of pension as I would under the FPS so that's 30 45ths....

but as the April 2012 and tapering does not coincide with either my birthday or my joining date how are partial years counted when working out pension rites???? can you get 25% of 1 60th???? or does the 4 months into a full(pensionable) year just get lost?

so example..... my tapering protection ends in December 2015 that's 9 months past my joining date...... I start on the proposed CARE pension..... does that count or do I still have to do another 8 years on 45ths to get my 2/3rds...

oh and to add to the confusion would 6 months at the accrual rate of 2 60ths equal a 1 60th or do you have to do a full year to get it???

i'm not sure there..... 4 months would be equivalent to a 1/180th. 6 months under double accrual is 1/60th but do they break it down a such? is 1/60th the least you can acrue? what happens if you leave at 11 months and 2 weeks? do you get a 1/60th?
or is the term "for each completed year?"

Exactly! How many on the fps will start a pension year in april??? Not many.

Would they do months? 1 month = 1/720th????

actually i don't think april comes into it. it's just a cut off point and the tappering protection is done in months from that date. question is..... is it for each completed month because i'd hate to get to 28 days and lose it because it wasn't classed as a month!
