Logistically noisy I can see problems but if it could be done it would be a good idea.
What about those forced out of the job through injury the lottery money is there to help them also. Would this fund only be for the death of a firefighter.

I would suggest only for the death of a firefighter or someone so badly injured, who may never work again.

Forsed out of work..what like the 26.5 year bad back men?
As for the FBU, they have done really well looking after FF for the last 12 years?
Thier stupidity is only limited by thier ineptitude, ask to have a look at their bank balance ?
Then say you trust them do manage any thing.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing tackle

You know I'd don't give a flying f--k who organises this.
I don't care if the people's popular front for Tudea suicide squad, or the monster raving loonies run it. So long as men and women and their families who have suffered the loss of a loved one, or severe injury are helped with this lottery, as I am sure they will be.
Let's just wait and see what unfolds, there are some deserving cases out there, including a man recently injured up here, who will need our help. Let's see what help they receive.
Just remember that most of us have been fortunate, not everyone has been as fortunate as us, they won't care so much were the help comes from, so why should we.

- Support the families of firefighters killed or seriously injured in the line of duty
- Honour the bravery and sacrifice of those firefighters killed in the line of duty
- Promote the lessons to be learnt from firefighter deaths and serious injuries
- Support research into the physical and mental health and well-being of firefighters and the “all hazards” nature of the modern fire and rescue service
- Support humanitarian assistance for those affected by fire or disaster
Basically we will use the money as we see fit!
I like many others have joined, what I want is an auditable yearly statement of where the money went.
Obviously no names, but specifics as to the intent of the gift/donation.
Points 4 and 5 gives me some concerns.
Both could be bottomless pits.
I would assume that the accounts would go to the EC.
And that the EC will need to endorse the distribution ( although histrionic)
But, mainly, who are the administrators of the distribution?
Openness and transparency.
Lets wait and see.

Yebut, the FBU are not running this, they have given that job to an accredited company who have organised other lotteries on behalf of their clients. In law it's mandatory that they provide such information, I beleive that the company may do this also. Then we have the main overseers the gambling commission who will also be involved.
The job of the FBU will be to decide who gets what and when. Now if someone is killed then that is straight forward, if someone is injured then judgements will have to be made.
The bottom line is that there will be funds made available to firefighters and their families that currently are not available, this must be a good thing, no matter who runs it.

Bill I am aware of the way the system works.
As stated points 4 & 5 give me concern.
Research? This has been done in the past by sub committees tasked to report back and monitor.
High Rise Committee etc.
Point 5 alludes to donations on a wider scale, disaster is an all encompassing word.
I am happy to support knowing that the monies are there to support the UK Fire Service family.
As for the disbursement of funds then surely the decisions of how much and to who, would surely have to be decided by an internal FBU committee and not a third party, who would have little or no understanding of the Fire Service.

Sometimes yebut we just have to have a bit of faith that this is, as I think it is, being done for all the right reasons. Got an email today saying I am in the first draw on Saturday night.
All the best yebut.
