On here about refusing
To carry fire service kit
In car boots for detached duties

Contaminates both visible
And hidden were discussed
We get lambasted for refusing to move our own kit.
Removal of drivers means ops crews have to pick up and drop off gear.
If we detached whilst on duty we are expected to take kit with us.
A certain station manager actually ordered someone to take kit with him and when he refused a group manager backed up the SM.
The excuse of kit being insured in our own cars can no longer be used.
It's the brigades responsibility to get your kit to station.
I no longer put fire gear near my own car.

Certain posters were using the petulant I’m not doing it/ defiance stance, I pointed out at the time that it was the right argument..... but for the wrong reasons. It’ll also be convenient for some personnel to maintain the status quo
"Fire Safety is the team I've always wanted to play for"

Now that management are actively disciplining people for refusing to transport fire kit in Scotland we really should be asking the fbu why they let this into our conditions in the first place.
We are told contaminated kit should never be put into our vehicles but if we started sending it away for cleaning after every single fire, as we should, the service would run out of spare gear and grind to a halt.

Recently we asked a SM this question and were told if it's only slightly dirty then he would question why we were sending it to laundry.
You really couldn't make this stuff up.

Not your problem if it does grind to a halt, is it? Think of yours and others health and wellbeing. No one should be questioning why you are sending gear away for laundry after a fire/incident, not all contaminants can be seen.

As I told my SM "I don't make the rules SFRS do. I only apply them to ensure the health and safety of my crew." We've had stn's off the run due to no gear after subsequent fires and someone sent to dundee to collect spare gear for the whole stn.

I think more people need to take one or two of these.

It's not about growing a set.
Going by the letter of the law we should be laundering our kit after each and every fire.
Will you put a pump OTR after a bin fire because the crew have been exposed to smoke from the plastic?
Technically you should but I'd be very surprised if you did.
You'd have an officer waiting at the station for your return ready to read the riot act.

The union are hugely at fault here for letting the kit issue get into our terms.
Managers are doing what managers do.
It's just very hypocritical for the union to be banging the cancer drum when they are the ones sat at the negotiating table agreeing we have to carry potentially contaminated kit.

Someone recently got a call telling them to get into station with their car as it had been discovered that asbestos was involved in a fire they were at after he had transported his kit after he finished.
That's the guys whole family exposed.

Yes I always book unavailable if crews are contaminated

For what? following SFRS policy? I have a copy of the PPE policy on my desktop for this. Not my rules I just apply them.

If he'd been at a fire then his gear was contaminated, his gear should've bagged up at the station he was at. It's really easy to follow their rules. Again not your fault if a pump goes off.

This all needs to be dealt with through “Comrade Regional Sec”. Her mess.

Please forward all correspondence to: darlinda@fbu.org.uk

For all of you out there under a certain age, she was a famous Scottish psychic in late 70’s/80’s.Big Grin

Now came to the conclusion that to get a hold of Comrade we’ll need some sort of supernatural intervention!o_O

But she said we'd hear news on this issue within weeks a few months ago.

Said it before Blow, and will continue to say it. She’s hiding!

She knows it’s her mess and is desperate for it all to go away. Unfortunately as she keeps a low profile, honest FF’s are paying the price for sheer stupidity/ineptitude on her part!

And hasn’t a clue how to fix it!

So as she hides, discipline is threatened to members who pay for this not to occur. Honestly the situation is beyond belief!!

Stop hiding and fiddling with petty policies. Get your backside into gear and start dealing with those pesky members (remember them?) concerns!!!

Anyone reading this ask your reps about how the Regional committee meetings are held? And more importantly, what are the outcomes? Amateur night doesn’t come close!Sad

Beginning to think Reg1 has got hold of a Klingon cloaking device!!o_O
