Retiring before pay increase is applied.

Saw that today.
We seem to be the only service who have to continually do more to get a pay rise.

Why we're hated so much I'll never understand.
Maybe if our bosses stood up for us once in a while it would be different.
It's a horrible feeling to be constantly fighting those who should be speaking up for you the loudest.

The problem with comparing us with prison officers is supply and demand.

How many folk apply to become firefighters compared to prison officers.

I don't know the answer, but I would speculate hundreds of firefighter applications per post versus not very many to become a prison officer.

A poor salary for such a job, £20,000 to £23,373 is way short of what a prison officer should be receiving. Even with the announced pay agreement they are underpaid.
We all have opinions, thank god they are not all the same, or there would be no debate.

I think it bought me a couple of Pints!!
Same here !

Yes knotty you are underpaid.
But not as much as them knotty.
Given the choice of being a ff or a prison officer I would rather be a ff.
£20,000, to £23,350 is a poor wage for what they do.

And 30k is a poor wage for what I do.
The prison officers will soon catch us up and they're not being told to take on another emergency services remit to secure a decent (ish) increase.

Maybe we should all be applying to be hydrant ops.

Why not apply to join then knotty. You obviously think they have a better job
