Increase in fire response times could be “difference between life and death”

Abbreviation for gutted, the house was gutted in the fire...... a gut.
We all have opinions, thank god they are not all the same, or there would be no debate.

Since then hundreds of thousands of smoke alarms have been fitted
Lots of other initiatives too have had a bearing

but one nugget from those halcyon days

If you give an elderly person, an immobile person or a bedridden person two smoke alarms
Unless you back it up with a promise to get to their home quickly when the alarm sounds
All that you have achieved is to provide them with a device that wakes them up to let them know that they are about to die in a fire .
A promise....I suppose you could give them one with a died battery in, that way they feel reassured, but does not wake them up?
Or you could fit sprinklers.
There always has to be a financial trade off.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing tackle
