Fire Union's Pay Threat
#31
"why not tell the GS to get into a room with the employers and don't come out until you have negotiated the best deal possible
taking into account new technology, modernisation and the far better service that firefighters are providing today"

you will have to wait he is to busy at the moment fending of getting stabbed in the back by the old guard.
seriously though its about time the leaders of this union did what the members voted them to do. stop bickering like young kids and get us a better deal than we are on now, can't be that difficult because at the bloody moment we are taking it LARGE.

couldn't agree more
just for once put pay on the backburner and make the focus a reduction in hours to say 37/week

easy to spin

no one could object

a 'modern' firefighter shouldn't be working 48 hours a week

YES! that will do for a starter.
could add shift allowance as well but this has been spouted for the last few years with no action

Rickoshay.....you're spot on about lsi/cpd they seem to have no intention of reaching an agreement on either,we were shafted by the media/employers/government during our farcical strike action(cancelling strike dates really strengthened our cause!).We were misled into thoughts of all sorts industrial action from trains being unable to run/undergrounds being closed/channel tunnel being closed.Truth of the matter,we had great support from the public...which was starting to dwindle and we got lip service from a few sympathetic souls and minority groups, and you can gaurantee that you will get no support from the civil service or the rest of the public sector, the exact same as we got during our last industrial action.

I agree totally,we should've went for night/shift and weekend allowance along with a reduction in hours worked, and we would'nt be in this mess about lsi/cpd and suffered the humiliating defeat in our shambolic attempt at industrial action.

37 hour week

remain on 224

work extra 5 hours as overtime= 30k

wasn't hard was it bbb?

why didn't they go for this in 2002

the gov't might have bought it and then sold it as a rise paid for out of 'productivity'

Public support for a strike?

Will we see a strike in 2007? In my view the jurys out. If MW doesnt pull it off then he will be up the road like his predecessor AG.

Public support not as it once was, the image of FF's striking is morally repugent in the publics eyes....this was recently seen in Murkyside.

Nurses enjoy real public support....quote from BBC News

Premiership footballers are being urged to donate a day's pay for nurses.
A number of top-flight footballers have already signed up to the Mayday for Nurses campaign, which is being run by one of the organisers of Live 8.

West Ham United captain Nigel Reo-Coker said he hoped others would follow suit as nurses were "the real heroes".

Top players can earn over £100,000 a week, while the annual average nurse's pay is £21,000. The Royal College of Nursing is administering the fund.
