FBU Conference
#31
An argument we in SY put forward and thats why we voted to reject it even though we got the most (£915). It was the first step in the employers plan to get local agreements and local bargianing to cause the break up of the FBU. It's all wrong! and they know it is.

We rejected the proposal down here in sunny Suffolk for exactly the same reasons. The feckers down here are only going to pay us £389.But with the proviso of 'if you can give us a little more productivity then maybe we can get you up to £500'.
The whole issue is a divide and conquer ploy, nothing more, nothing less.

So for less tha £6:60 per week after tax etc.this is what I am being asked to do:

Professional Competence.
Effective Organisaton of work to meet the demands of your role.
Commitment to the values of the Fire and rescue Service.
Commitment to health and safety requirements.

Commitment to the job.
Commitment to achieving your Fire and Rescue Services objectives.
Commitment to personal and professional development.
Commitment to achieving high levels of attendance.

Relations with the public and colleagues.
Promoting equality, diversity, and human rights in working practices
Contributing to your Fire and Rescue Service's objectives, recognising the needs of all relevant communities.
Working as part of a team.

Willingness to learn and adjust to new circumstances.
Making the best use of available technology
Demonstrateing an openness to change.

So presummably if I don't take the money I will retain the choice of whether I want to get involved with any of these targets or not. Frankly for £6:60 I find the whole thing insulting and disrespectful. I'll keep my choice, and decline the offer. If everybody did the same, and retained there choice, and boycotted, the whole thing would become meaningless, the employers would receive a strong message and realise that if they want to "modernise" the service they will have to treat us better.

For years we have undervalued our worth, and this offer, and our acceptance, just reinforces, the same over again.

Incedentally with three years to go, my pension from CPD if Iwere to take it would amount to about 33p per week after tax, think I will manage without it!

I agree Baldygeezer. They can have mine, something I have been saying for a long time. I would get about £11 a week after stoppages but I'd pay that to keep the sc ab FOA and RFU away from the NJC negotiating panel and for the right to say "How much will that be worth to me" the next time they try to introduce new equipment.

By rejecting it you don't acquire extra rights at work. You can't say 'I won't do X because of CPD.' You just lose money.
Never under estimate the power of very stupid people in large groups.

If it's not in the role map then it attracts an ARA. We have embraced new technology in the fire service for the 24 years I have served (although some of it isn't so new now). We have always taken on new roles and equipment, had the relevant training etc. even though it wasn't in the "Job Description". Never did we say "What about extra Money". When we then ask for a decent pay rise we get lambasted by the government. We should always ask for ARA if anything being introduced is not in the Role Map. Also by making the CPD so difficult to attain they have effectively broken the 2003 agreement. This was an agreement between both sides, The FBU and it's members have not broken any section of the agreement. What are we to do, just keep taking it from the government or start fighting back?

It is very difficult to force people do the following things effectivly, they can be forced, with close supervision, but the result is never the same!

Effective organisation.
Commitment.
Promoting.
Contributing.
Willingness.
Make best use.
Demonstrating.

Effecive management and "Modernisation" will only ever really work with the collaboration of all parties, and the current offer of CPD, in my case, as previously stated I find insulting, does not achieve that. Whilst I accept, I will inevitably have to follow the various dictats as issued, I will not be going out of my way to do any of the above. If others choose to then so be it, with only three years to do, I am afraid I feel totally disenfranchised from the Fire Service. It is their future not mine, if they feel that £6:60 is an appropriate payment, that is fine, I don't, so will decline, and I wish them luck!

If you keep accepting crumbs, guess what you get offered!

How can you ask for an ARA when we don't even have a difinitive role map to go by, or to be precise, a catagoric list of jbs that are clearly defined within a role map?

The FBU and employers have had 4 years now to sort out the rank to role assimilation, between them they have failed to do this, and I for one don't see any rush to get this done.

Who gains from this feet dragging? Well, the empmloyers and CFOs of course, they can keep adding more and more taks to the job knowing that no-one can say it is not in their role map, because there isn't one.

If I'm wrong and there is a proper definitive role map somewhere including everything we are required to within our contracts, please can someone post it on here so we can then see what we DON'T have to do.

Thanks.
