Oh my good god Ive always wanted to dress as a postman, er post person, er post operative, er a papyrus communication courier. I heard it was going to be a burgundy shirt and trousers which after a couple of washes would look very smart shrunken and raspberry coloured hugging a middle aged paunch and not such a pert ****.

There is a magazine out on Stations now, but for the life of me i cant remember the name, but its Yellow ??.

It has the Fire Kit, And the uniform. The pictures shown only show the trousers and T/Shirt,Shirt. But the jackets and winter coats are unbelievable !!!!! Grey with Red Flashes, and bloody horrible !!!!!!!

Just goes to show that the uniform survey was a waste of time. From what I can remember reading at the time all contributiors wnated something smart and a reasonable colour. It appears the powers to be who know best on just about everything haven't taken the slightest bit of notice of anything the people who will be wearing them said. Another fine example of consultation!! As Jim Royal would say "My a**e"

Surely your signature should read 2 pay days to go.

Im sure Durham had this grey stuff years ago. not sure if its exactly the same but it sure looks like it,
Used to meet up with them at incidents and they all hated it.
Obviously we never , ever made a single comment Wink as this could have been viewed as bullying and harrasment

but they did look like bin men!!!
Caius Petronius, Roman centurion, AD69

We trained hard, but it seemed that every time we were beginning to form up into teams we would be reorganised. I was to learn later in life that we tend to meet any new situation by reorganising, and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress, while producing confusion, inefficiency and demoralisation.

aint modernisation a wonderful thing!!

Be an example to your men, in your duty and in private life. Never spare yourself, and let the troops see that you don't in your endurance of fatigue and privation. Always be tactful and well-mannered and teach your subordinates to do the same. Avoid excessive sharpness or harshness of voice, which usually indicates the man who has shortcomings of his own to hide.

Why is everyone getting so uptight? As someone has said, it's free! Everyone in our brigade gets "corporate wear" now but you have to be operational to wear a uniform....ask most members of the public what a firefighters uniform looks like and, depending where they live, they will say yellow helmet, black, purple or brown tunic and leggings and black boots.
