If we reaffiliate with Labour, I for one will be looking for alternative representation. The discussions round the mess room table would indicate that a lot of members on my station will do the same. I know the SFRS membership is only a portion of the total membership, but how many English, Welsh or Irish members may also follow.

I honestly think reaffiliation to Labour could be suicidal for the FBU. IMHO

The membership sacked Gilchrist, it now looks like Wrack is sacking the membership.

They've been itching to do it for years even under the Blairites.
Yet another great strategy.
Big Grin Jim didn't fix it for me.

Jeremy Corbyn gave tge FBU a name check in his victory speech.
Matt Wrack worked hard on JCs campaign
Nuff said

And all trade unions should be affiliated to the Labour Party
It helps to keep it the Labour Party and not New Labour , an offshoot of the Tory Party.

So if someone leaves the FBU then these ones are not on your list of options

As of July 2015, the trade unions affiliated to the Labour Party are:[1]
The General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) represents its members, seven of the smaller unions, on many of the committees if they cannot send a delegate.

So that's the Wheeltappers and shunters,
or the Worshipful Company of Firefighters
http://www.firefighterscompany.org
Who are keen to hear from new members.

Who better than the FBU to look after firefighters, just because they join a socialist party that has workers rights in mind?

And look at the debacle that unfolded in Alba when senior Scottish FBU officials became bedfellows with the SNP, that wasn't a pretty sight

Smile

Looks like he's doing a grand job to.
If 25% of the members leave he puts up the dues 25%
If another 25% leave he reduces officials and services by 25%
If another 25% leave he sacks the EC and all the staff, apart from himself and the tea lady,
When the last of the members go
He resigns saying the members never understood or deserved him.
But the tea lady will get a nice final salary pension.
That way he can claim he always cared for his staff.
But he will keep it a secret between him and the tea lady.
We all have opinions, thank god they are not all the same, or there would be no debate.

Let's remind ourselves why so many have left the FBU.
Many don't align themselves with working class and trade unionism
Many don't have the value of unity
Many want to get on and promoted and CFOs have made membership of the FBU a bar to promotion
Many see membership of the FBU a hindrance to their capacity to earn extra even during times when the FBU has asked its members to take strike action

None of which is Matt Wracks doing.

Which union out of the rest actually has stood up year on year, year after year to defend the COS of its members to the same extent as the FBU.

I have been at the forefront on here of a bit of FBU bashing, but only because the FBU was my Union for thirty years and my comments were in the vein of a " family" row.

But make no mistake there are plenty who will rejoice to see the FBU weakened
And the same people will be slightly more worried of a night to hear that other unions are gathering around the Labour Party.

Good news

Tornado, you just blow me away, lol

Careful bill you’re not accused of ‘gloating’ with that contribution. And how close to the truth you might just be!

One issue that was never addressed is that although we ended the former general secretary’s employment we never ended paying him. The deal is, if elected twice, is that you receive 2/3rds of your wage until pension age (60) at which time the pension kicks in which in itself is a story to be told, wonder how the review of national officials pensions is progressing with the president, must be 3 years or more now. I understand that the contract with Brothers Ellis and Gilchrist was as outlined but surely the members would expect this to be challenged and amended if anyone in receipt of this generous severance arrangement becomes gainfully employed and earning beyond the final salary when in post.

The finance papers is working on the assumption from a previous paper to conference which recommended that we have 60% in the surplus to carry forward. Not even the austerity governments are proposing that kind of finance, if this was about paying off loans or debts. The option of selling head office was looked at but rejected, the proposal was to sell and lease a floor of a building in central London, must say the big new UNISON offices are looking closer now than ever and maybe not of the terms we could have had.

So RDR when the GS was deselected, unelected or whatever he still gets 2/3rds pay until 60 yoa?
Even if the GS finds another job ?

I am reading that right aren't I?

Transparency and accountability .
How many members are aware of that
Why are these and other items kept under the radar
