Payvote

What annoys me are the amount of people that are ignorant of what is happening to our profession and that really dont care what happens to our profession as long as they can get paid as much as possible. When i explained why i'd voted no alot of the younger Ff's and some of the older ones just didnt have a clue what is going on at the moment and just followed the EC's recommendation. Not even a branch meeting so differing views could be aired. This is despite asking the divisional rep whose reply was "there's no need as the EC have recommended to accept" What hope have we?

Sounds sadly familiar!.......

We have no hope RR, my rep tells me he was jumped all over at his Brigade meeting by a Regional Rep asking whether he thought the membership were up for a fight on pay?
It was my understanding that pay & pensions would be rolled into one for the National strike we are all expecting, but no, on the recommendation of the EC, most people did not read any other part of that ballot letter other than 1% & EC recommends...sad times indeed?

Who told you that...no national strike planned.... you were given duff information...

pay accepted and once pension talks conclude then the members will be asked whether they accept or reject and if it is reject then a ballot for strike action will follow I would expect

hopefully not with a 9 day window and crap wording like the last one! i also do not like the asking of members whether they accept or reject without any prior work being put in.
what happened to leading from the front? start carrying on like that and it won't be long before there will be no point in being in the union as the selfish people will overrule the others.

we all know that the membership is carried along by the top table. back in 2002/03, do you think the FBU would have gotten that massive yes vote if they had just asked the membership what they thought beforehand and not put the work in?
a letter coming through your door with a recommendation of "ACCEPT" the current offer back then would not have the result it would have.
so why are they doing it now?

they are playing an extremely dangerous game by doing so. they would in effect allow the people in the NFPS & those that don't have a pension to stitch up those in the FPS and that start the ball rolling to a mass exodus of the FBU. I have members waiting to see what happens who i have no doubt will leave the FBU and then start to fend for themselves which will start a chain reaction of members leaving and the uprising of selfish individuals who will be fighting amongst themselves for OT etc.
and to cap that off, i'm not sure i would want to be part of an organisation who didn't have the balls to lead from the front!

I know its no excuse but that might have had something to do with the fact that the recommendation came at the end of the letter in BOLD eyecatching print, and after all, isnt the EC meant to reoresent the memberships best interest!?.......

Hear Hear. Absolutely right that.

The FBU are basically passing the buck without any fight, any leadership, or any guidance. Then they can always say to the membership if they dare to complain about their low wages and lack of a decent pension, "you voted for it, you accepted the offer".

A very dangerous game indeed, but one it would seem that is acceptable to the leadership of the FBU.
