Anybody at Conference going to provide up to date information on how things are going

The problem is that most of the people that used to give updates on proceedings are probably delegates themselves now and therefore stuck in the Floral Hall or there might not be anything worth reporting just yet as the first session is about opening statements, who's who and a talking at by Angela Smith MP(Fire Minister). Thursday's business should provide lively debate though.
My opinions in no way reflect those of my employer, and should not be interpreted as such.

What sort of reception will Angela Smith get? Polite but cool? - Will she say anything worthwhile, a few empty plaudits perhaps, or a lecture on the need for even more 'modernisation'?

Is there meant to be anything on these 'video clips' yet - if so, I can't get them to play?

I hope the minister for fire gets more than a cool response, she deserves to get a hard time from the delegates. The UK fire service is going backwards at a major rate of knots. The goverment are filling us up with targets and managers to 'manage' the targets (ring any alarm bells). Most brigades have lost thier way in the fog of CFS.Training and all things practical are distant echoes of what used to be.Fire safety is now in the hands of the 'reponsible person' who is the same person counting the profit margins. If we are not careful we will end up like the poor sods in the NHS and ambulance service. The list is endless and far more exhaustive, but all links back to the goverments modernisation agenda.
SO I HOPE ITS CHUFFING SUB ZERO WHEN SHE GETS UP .

So the Faraday cage worked then .... So what was actually decided at conference this year? What can I expect from my Union? What happened with the sections and their voting rights? What is the FBU going to do to save my job?

Vicky Knight was mugged and beaten up on thursday evening in Southport and had to return home. I hope you will all join me in wishing her a speedy recovery. Also Paul Embury was taken ill on friday and had to go to hospital. Any news on both?

Paul was taken ill whilst seconding a resolution. Everybody thought it was over indulgence from the noght before and found it quite amusing. Imagine our shock to find out later he was in hospital. Get well soon Paul. If we had a right to reply Angela Smith would have got it in the neck from a few delegates. I spoke to the Lads from SY who moved the affiliation reso and they were livid they couldn't get up and give her what for. The Equality votes got pulled and I for one am glad and I just hope they get their act together or this will be an annual debate. Just like to say that Mick Shaw had a very impressive first Presidential role. He looked like he was made for the job, well done Mick. It was good to see a lot of first time speakers, the future is not so dull for the FBU. My first time too but I had a fantastic time and can't wait for next year.
