News concerning Harcombe House

Quite alot of comment on Facebook concerning Harcombe House

Quote:STUKFS. Remember the truth is out there..

We have just received a call from a concerned Ff, below are the concerns raised
regarding Physiotherapists at Harcombe house working for the Fire Fighters Charity.

Apparently 2 weeks ago the board of trustees met and due to a cash flow crisis following the Littlehampton refit, the Charity have taken a decision to terminate physiotherapy at Harcombe house and make all the Physiotherapists redundant.

This decision has been made with no consultation with us the people who raise the cash to run it in the first place.

Could you rattle a few cages and see what comes out.

The physios have been told they are not allowed to tell anyone.

If you have any more information please message us if you are a serving Ff and we will edit your posts.

And from the same Facebook thread ....

Quote:We are receiving messages left right and centre from therapists who have or are working for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The common thread from them is that if they stand up and comment openly they are likely to be sacked rather than being made redundant, how is this fair in a charity organisation.

Surely people who are just trying to help us firefighters and our families while in our times of need should have our support in their time of need.

Fire fighters retired and serving out charity needs us to step up to the plate.
Please get in touch with your local rep and increase your subscriptions even if it's only by a £1 a month.
Let's remember that we are the charity we are the fund raisers and we are the recipients of the skills these people have studied long and hard to make us or our family members better.

And again ....

Quote:A further message received reads as follows.

I suspect that this is the start of the closure and sell off of Harcombe, the TVs in the bungalows dont work and there is a cost implaction to bring new cables across the fields to improve this, in addition despite advertising outside of the fire service community of the rental of the bungalows, there always seems to have capacity and apart from School holidays, it is rarely full. we were told the current value of Harcombe was £3m and it it was sold it would clear the deficit and leave money to do other things, but once you loose Harcombe it would cost more than £3m to erect something in its place, but with no Rehab at Harcombe, the recouperation and bungalow occupation is thought to be at risk, especially after the Rehab closes. Harcombe has 300 acres of prime farm land , woodland and 3 ponds (stream fed), the figure of £3m seems low, unless plans are already in hand to sell of as its going to cost too much to update/modernise.

Some lively discussion going on about this topic ...

Yes, it was a great shame when the Benevolent fund became a business, . . . . . .

When charities became corporations and the CEO's started awarding themselves and their friends obscene salaries the demise of the charity sector began. I am sad it has come to this.
