Abatement Questions???
#1
I have heard of the abatement rules in relation to being reemployed by a FRS, but I have just read:

Abatement of pension is the withdrawal or reduction in pension where the pensioner is re-employed anywhere in local government.

Some questions

1) Does anyone know what the definition of 'local government' means in relation to abatement. I assume it means a country council or unitary authority who are paying the pension and new salary if reemployed? Or does it mean borough councils, parish councils or local authority quangos ?

2) Can I confirm this abatement rule does NOT apply for central Govt jobs??

3) Whose responsibility is it to declare reemployment? Mine or my employer or HMRC??

Thanks

ABee this sounds like something you need to go to either your pension admin with, or your brigade for specific advice.
We all have opinions, thank god they are not all the same, or there would be no debate.

If I remember correctly, if the fire authority is under the umbrella of a local authority, then being re-employed by a LA results in abatement, if in the case of London, which is its own authority under the Mayor but not under LA control you could be reemployed by an LA in london without abatement. It is nearly six years since I looked into this so I may be mistaken somewhere along these lines, but this is where you need to start checking.
