Advice needed please
#1
Hello everyone,
So basically I applied to a UK fire service, passed the application, talent screener, fitness test.

I received an email stating that if I were to miss any of the fact to face stages due to covid I would be able to complete them at a later date and it would not affect my current progress.

I was invited to the PAD however I got COVID so I was unable to attend.

They have now sort of gone back on their word and said that I can still do my pad but I will not be able to join the recruits course in May if I pass the pad, interview and medical due to time scales. Only that if I pass the above I MAY be considered for a future recruits course.

I am really disappointed by this and feel badly let down because I legally had to self isolate and there was nothing that I could do about this and they assured me that if I had to isolate my progress would not be affected. I just feel like it's really rubbish after all the effort I have put in over the last year or so to ensure that I am in a good enough shape to get in, mentally and physically.

Has anyone else had anything similar or got any advice? Any comments are really appreciated. Thank you

I'd go ahead with the application & give it 100%. Sounds like they've got their quota for the May intake but probability of everybody on that intake being (Covid) Fit to start is unlikely. You'd maybe get a shout to join the course after all.
Even if you don't get a start in May you'd be on pole for the next course?
If you really want to join the Fire Service why would you stop now?

I would just like to back up what HH has stated.
You have been unlucky, but don’t get to despondent.
The fire service is an ever evolving organisation, with people retiring, and people like yourself replacing them. There will be another recruitment drive, get yourself ready for when it comes, hopefully sooner than later.

Good luck.
We all have opinions, thank god they are not all the same, or there would be no debate.

Thank you guys. I am definitely going to continue pursuing the career. The main reason I was upset by not being able to join the nearest recruits course was because I received an email from the fire service prior to PAD promising me and all of the other potential recruits that any of our progress would not be affected if we had to self isolate because they would ensure we could complete the stage missed at a later date. So I was pretty surprised when they said I couldn't join this years course because I missed PAD due to testing positive for COVID.
Anyway I've got a little while to keep improving and giving myself a better chance next time around

Someone from the Fire Service lied to you, I'm sorry to hear that. If you do get in one day, you will be lied to many times over your career. Good luck.

Hi notnarcissus, I feel like it was more of a poor communication thing to be honest. Although it has knocked me a little, it is definitely the career I want to get in to so hopefully next time I don't test positive for COVID the day before PAD

Hi Nightstaffer,
I'm absolutely going to keep trying, if anything it gives me another year or so to improve. I will keep posting on here.
The latest news is that they are inviting me for a PAD day on a different date, they just can't offer me a place on the recruit course starting in May because of time scales or something.
Not too sure what is going to happen after the PAD, never know I may get an opportunity if there is a shortage of recruits. Let's see
Thanks
