Mud throwing ?! I can’t believe that you think it’s mud throwing. It’s sexual harassment, misogynistic and unacceptable behaviour and we should do everything in our power to remove these type of people from our service. If your first reaction is mud throwing then I’m sorry to say you are part of the problem as well.

if I was a member of the public right now, I would blame the fire service for what happened at Grenfel, think that the LFB and South Wales fire and rescue was riddled with racists and misogynists, and fire service service incompetence led to what had happened in jersey. This report is about TWO members of a fire service, yet reading the healings and watching this on tv, this seems to have been forgotten.
We all have opinions, thank god they are not all the same, or there would be no debate.

Exactly, I am in South Wales, and why any actions like these two have done are indefensible, we all couldn't believe the one guy kept his job, it has tarnished all of us. The amount of time devoted to things like white ribbon, diversity and standards mean we are far from misogynistic as an organisation, but have just been taken apart on the news Sad

We have had the “ institutionally “ debate on another thread so will keep it brief.

I think that there is an element of “ mudslinging “ and the outcome is that a lot of the mud is going to stick on a lot of decent people whose attitude and behaviour is a million miles away from this appalling incident - yes incident .

Firefighters do not run about the station waving their willies and chasing females down the corridors .

Nazir Afzal the author of the London review is calling for a National review intp all public services including the NHS.

I think that he is going forward on an assumption that “ what goes on in London” goes on elsewhere

once an allegation like that is thrown up in the air then straightaway the “ mud sticks”

all fire brigades become mysoginist racist
All firefighters become racists, mysoginists and homophobic

currently a nurse is on trial regarding unexplained deaths of several newborn babies under her care

that doesn’t call into doubt the integrity of all other nurses does it ?

The NHS is the most diverse of all public sector organisations and also the largest employer in U.K.

the HR departments of each NHS trust are no doubt kept busy with cases of bullying , harassment etc but we never hear of any accusations of “institutional “.
It’s nearly 20 years since I retired.
In my time the attitudes of the fire service and firefighters changed for the better and the atmosphere was more enlightened regarding “ equal ops”.

in the last decade alone more issues such as gender fluidity have come to the fore and been discussed openly in the media.

Tolerance and understanding.

Today despite in house training and media coverage including once taboo subjects being aired on TV including storylines in soaps

some individuals just don’t get it .

they never will in many cases

so we all get tarnished

so the clamour for a “ national Enquiry “ will increase . There are plenty of people ready to come on TV and radio and write columns picking up the “ institutional “ gig

urging reform , demanding that the “ culture” be changed

CFOs will go along with it
Of course they will
Which one is going to be brave enough to say “that doesn’t go on in my FRS”!
will they defend their employees from this “ mud slinging” ?

years nay decades of hard work is about to be undone by the actions of a few, yes maybe quite a few, individual morons

The FBU won’t stand up for “ the brigade” despite working hard to improve things through courses and education.
Their default stance and correctly will be to stand up for the victims - so they should .

So if CFOs meekly accept the findings of the review
The FBU are focussing on the victims

who stands in front of firefighters to shield them from the barrage of mud that is going to be slung their way in the coming weeks?
Remember this was the first item on the national news at a time when there are rail strikes, cost of living crisis etc
So media attention is only going to grow

I am not condoning any bad behaviour at all -
Discipline procedures exist - use them properly

whoops did I say “ brief” at the beginning
Sorry !

I reckon that covers it for me Ns.
Let’s get some perspective here, and as for anyone not being the solution but the problem, well getting personal does nothing but agitate. I get stressed post, he says what many tightly feel.

Without detracting from the serious issue/s being highlighted and revealed here, I find the timing of this dubious, especially if you take account of when these events happened, and the subsequent disciplinary hearing & decisions.

I find this whole thing dubious oily.
Is there one brigade, police force, or any large workforce anywhere without a few idiots. Does this warrant national news, and what good does this this do for morale in these trying times.

I’ve just seen this on the evening news….. have read the comments above and the whole shebang has left me at a loss… Bill you are right…..it’s only 2 morons that are in the frame but that’s 2 too many. Are there more?…probably, and no doubt a can of worms may be opened and rightly so as investigations continue. Timing… who gives a monkeys about timing… if these things took place and have just been revealed then the timing is right…
Living near to Wales as I do there is no doubt that on my next visit to my local I will be challenged on the issue as most of the regulars know of my Fire Service days and I’m not shy in educating them on eg raw deals that the Fire Service has had over the years and constantly attempting to “defend our so called Gold Plated Pension”. When the subject is raised I will no doubt say that if the individuals are guilty then they should be punished accordingly by the authorities. However some of them will be reeling with glee that the Fire Service will be dragged through the mud.
As and when we find “bad apples” get them out asap and try to keep the good apples and be proud to have a clean barrel .
