Crowd Funding for Barry Martin.
#1
Here’s the web address for Barry’s crowdfunding.
Barry only joined the SFRS in 2020.
So unless I am mistaken his wife won’t receive any pension.
Just remember that Barry could have been anyone of us, we could have turned up at a job and never returned home. He had two twins to support, and any help we can give his wife I am sure will be much appreciated. They have set a rather low target of £25,000, which is almost met.

RIP Barry

We all have opinions, thank god they are not all the same, or there would be no debate.

Barry’s crowdfunding just reached the £25,000 mark. Way too low his family need all the help they can get. Now I only put £10 but if we all did that it would make a difference. For every additional £10,000 I will put in another £10 So come on you lot bankrupt me Smile.
If you wish post that you have made a donation on here, and add the link to all the usual social network places. Cheers.

Done and shared Bill.
Be who you are and say what you feel...because those who matter... don't mind...and those who mind... don't matter.

Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools because they have to say something.

Opinions are like arseholes; everybody has one, but nobody wants to hear anyone elses.

Being honest may not get you a lot of friends but it'll always get you the right ones.

I know some have already donated, just want to say well done and thanks.
Barry was only a young man 38 no time to die.
His family need our support, and they deserve our support.
And we need to make a mockery of this tiny £25,000 target.
I am sure that the fire brigades union lottery will donate.
They have £138,000 in the bank.
Thanks again.

Forgive my lack of knowledge of how the conditions of service and pension scheme have changed since I retired in 2001, but I understood that the 5 x annual salary (subject to abatement) (Grey Book) still applied or did we lose that? The pension scheme paid out 2 x annual salary irrespective of service. Did that vanish as well? Could somebody with more awareness of present conditions advise as this is a subject of debate amongst our “old fools” walking watch.

Feel free to ease through this lot, but bottom line someone who dies in service sfter just three years is unlikely to generate enough for those he or she has left behind who depended on them.

Death in service is one benefit which pays a lump sum but with only 3 years service the widows pension is worthless, hence the crowd funding

Cheers to Stressed and BillA. My memory played me false on the Grey book ( there was a copy on line) The pension guide was an interesting read. I can well understand the need and reason for the Crowdfunding. As a group we had made donation, but we were curious about any movement in pension death benefits.
