A few weeks ago, we launched our Incident Management Toolkit (IMT) METHANE app and have had a lot of interest, uptake and positive feedback. Thanks for all your comments which have been very helpful.

We’re committed to supporting our emergency services colleagues and are passionate about improving patient care. As a team, we feel strongly that this app has the potential to make a real difference but we’ve realised that it’s individuals who’ve been buying it, rather than organisations. It’s not ideal that it’s down to the enthusiasts out there to fund this themselves so we’ve decided to make the app free. No strings attached. No adverts.

If you have paid for the app, please contact us and we can explain how we can refund you.
Please encourage others to use the app, and do keep giving us feedback.

Well, the OnePlus Two was launched at 3AM GMT this morning. I've been running the OnePlus One for over a year now since I switched from my iPhone and I've never looked back.
A really great phone that can be had for just over £200 and has a great rom on it.

The OnePlus Two? As before, it's invite only (which made the OnePlus One a bit of a rarity) but this time they have a lot more stock and assure everyone that signs up will get an invite.

£284 for a Quad core, 4gb, 64gb, dual nano sim, 5.5 inch screen phone. The specs are amongst the best out there and the phone works great.

You can sign up for invites here:
https://oneplus.net/invites?kolid=ELBU1J

and by doing so will put you on their invite list (no spam) and also bump me up the list too!

Have a look here:
https://oneplus.net//2
Check it out, break away from the norm. Trust me, it's a great phone.

This single message can crash Skype

And it’s only 8 characters long.

If you’re sending someone a link in Skype, be careful — a simple typo could crash the program for them.

These eight characters — http://: — when used in any message, can crash Skype for the recipient and, in many cases, require reinstalling the application.

A Skype user discovered the bug by accident and posted about it in a Skype community forum, leading technology blogs to pick up the news. As VentureBeat reports, Skype for Windows is more affected by the issue than Skype for Mac; on the former, receiving or even sending the string of characters will crash the program so badly that it requires reinstallation.

This may remind you of a different messaging bug that was big news a week ago: a specific message, with Arabic characters, that will crash Messages on an iPhone. The difference here is that the string of text that can crash Skype could very easily be sent accidentally.

Apple AAPL 0.52% took a full day to respond to the news of its bug, and it has now released a temporary fix; a Skype team member has already written in the same forum that the company is “aware of the problem and… working to provide an resolution.” For now, reports indicate that the best you can do if you receive the message is ask the sender to delete it, and then re-download the program.

It's the end of OS'es as we know it.
Virtualisation is now the industry norm. But, let's take it another step forward. Imagine running your app's without an underlying OS and in a container that can simply be booted in milliseconds and on any piece of hardware.
That's precisely what's happening now and the big players are google etc who have been doing this for a while with their clusters.
Now, with the advent of CoreOS & Docker etc, apps simply don't need all of the underlying OS to get going.

Putting it simply, you install your OS eg windows 7 etc and then put you programs eg adobe photoshop on top.
Imagine not needing windows 7 (or any other OS) to run it. Just photoshop by itself and it's dependencies.
Couple that with it running in it's own container and security and reliability are massively improved.
Lower footprints, increased security and performance to name a few.

Interesting times indeed for the IT world.
