Scottish officials at Conservative conference
#21
Personally I think it's worth every penny to see the look on a Tory's face when they realise there is a Union stall at their conference...particularly a socialist union like ours.

More chance of them p155ing themselves that a trade union would give them money thinking it would help them bring about a socialist system of society

Why am I not surprised.

Seems that not only the Tories are having a laugh.

I have just been given this information re FBU attendance at the Tory conference.

Hi Bill

Just so you know

I phoned my rep and asked him about this tory conference

He told me that they have attended Labour, Conservative, Greens with SNP next week seemingly but not Lib Dems as it was the same day as the Greens
He also said at the Conservative one they were beside Unison Scotland and the Police Federation with a teachers union also there
I asked why and was told it would be incredibly foolish to ignore the official opposition in Scotland and it is better to be inside arguing the points like pensions with them instead of outside shouting at them as they go in.

Anyway Bill you now have all the same info I got

Don't know if you agree but kinda put my mind at rest.

My only problem with that answer is that they chose not to attend the Lib Dem conference. If we go to one we should be at them all.

In the days of the Labour controlled Strathclyde Fire Board the majority of the time it was only the Lib Dem and Independent councillors who would hold the management team to account. The labour councillors passed everything that was presented to them.

A stall giving away pens ,fridge magnets, coasters ,mouse mats ( remember them) is a instantly forgettable
Who ever calls the number on the freebie merchandise

Yes we no longer know who are our political masters are
so do you really think the best tactic is to kiss all of their arses just so you get the right one?

Standing in the foyer smiling acquiesently as the political activists pass by is not the same as standing centre stage on the platform and telling them how it's going to be

Trade unions running whelk stalls
Whilst the elite dine on oysters and lobster

Is that we have come to?

Get up off yer knees
Pack up the tents
That's not the style

Leave that sort of thing to the kitten's

The Autumn SNP conference wanted £5k for stalls. So much that many unions set up at another venue next to it to get attendees to visit as it was cheaper.

BTW there was other unions with stalls at the Tory conference and the police Fed.

The SNP spring conference is this week the FBU will have a stall and that's the government responsible for the cuts to the number of firefighters. Should they attend?

Why are they there?
To increase membership?
To raise the FBUs profile?
To protest against cuts?
To start a pay campaign?

The major players at these conferences don't hang about in the foyers

Imho it's a money raising effort by the organisers to subsidise the cost of the conference .

Do the SNP have free stalls for charities and interested parties.
The Tories did according to my research.
If so they get free access to their conference.

I aggre with ns, it's a complete waste of time and effort.
But if it's a freebie I suppose it makes sense to attend.
But not if they are using members money.

Why not just park ' the Ring of Fire ' battle bus outside?

Or is this a more genteel refined "let's get away from the militant image and enter an intelligent grown up debate" type of approach

What is the aim of the stall
