The courses should have been allocated first as previously done, now they have aide the error they should wait for leave changes, then fit in around them, but you know that wont happen,

Leave will become less flexible year on year until you are only allowed mutual exchanges as people leave and resources dwindle.

I predict:

The operational reserve use will be adapted and change along with the reduction in resources. In two to three years I suspect you will be called in off duty to cover gaps on other watches, maybe even to do community safety. The OR agreement has more holes than a swiss cheese, and will be adapted to suit the IRMP and national fire service framework. All this will be at "flat rate", no overtime, no travel allowance.

I hope I am wrong, I've been wrong before, but not too often.....!

Well, well, here we all are two years later, more fireys from Hull working on the south bank despite severe cuts, and a proposed/adapted new system that will not benefit firefighters in the least, but will involve them coming in to cover shortfalls on other watches ! at flat rate, no overtime, no detachments required, no travelling allowance, etc, etc.

You don't need to be a genius to work out the likely direction of travel fire services will take, or how they will get there.

Unfortunately on this occasion, it's looking likely that I was right, my fears were well founded. Some people can't see the wood for the trees. My advise- take it or leave it, everyone, (especially the FBU), take a step backwards, look at the bigger picture, keep informed, be realistic, don't miss opportunities and don't throw the baby away with the bath water ! Look at fitness testing. You may not be able to change the retirement age of 60 now, that was lost in 2004, but you may be able to manipulate fitness testing nationally, or locally, to enable more firefighters reach or get closer to 60 yrs. not ideal, not what you signed up for, but there's an opportunity there for the FBU to exploit, will they take it, use it, claw something back for their members ? I don't know.
